Charged EVs | New York’s MTA orders 60 extra battery-electric buses from New Flyer

The New York Metropolis Transit Authority has ordered 60 Xcelsior CHARGE NG forty-foot heavy-duty electrical transit buses from New Flyer of America (a subsidiary of the NFI Group). The order is supported by Federal Transit Administration funds.

NYCT is already working 15 New Flyer e-buses beforehand delivered to by. The NYCT and the MTA Bus Firm collectively comprise the biggest transit company in North America, serving an estimated 8.5 million residents and 60 million guests with 678 million bus rides yearly. NYCT is one in all seven transit companies in New York State which have purchased electrical buses from New Flyer.

New Flyer’s Xcelsior CHARGE NG battery-electric bus encompasses a new light-weight electrical drive system that options as much as 525 kWh of power storage, and boasts a regeneration fee of as much as 90%.

“For greater than 25 years, we delivered over 2,990 buses and 1,170 coaches to the MTA,” stated Chris Stoddart, President, North American Bus and Coach. “With these further high-performance zero-emission Xcelsior CHARGE NG buses, we’re increasing sustainable mobility in New York Metropolis and the encompassing boroughs and delivering cleaner air.”
